Walt Disney’s Moana 2 was released in India yesterday (November 29) and performed decently well at the box office. The film, which was earlier supposed to come out as a web series for Disney’s OTT platform, had built great anticipation among the Indian audience ahead of its release. As a result, on day 1, it managed to collect a total of Rs 2.75 crore. The numbers was decent, considering the film’s audience consists mostly of youngsters.

Directed by Dana Ledoux Miller, Moana 2 saw an occupancy rate of 43 % in the English language shows. Where as, Hindi occupancy rate was 16% approximately, according to the date shared by Sacnilk. The performance is expected to get better by the day, considering there are no new releases this week. While re-releases such as Veer Zara, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Biwi No. 1 are performing well, people willing to watch something fresh on Sunday may opt for the animated adventure.

However, the film has only this week to get good numbers as Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 will be making its way into theatres next Thursday. The much-awaited sequel to Pushpa: The Rise is expected to overshadow every other release.

Moana 2 International Collection

The fantasy-adventure minted USD 57.5 million on its opening day in the US, including $13.8 million (£11 million) in previews. This was, by far, the biggest opening given by a Disney Animated film. The collections also broke several records, making Moana 2 the third biggest opener after Incredibles 2 (USD 71.2 million) and Inside Out (USD 63.5 million). On Thanksgiving Day, the film collected a total of $28 million, shattering many records again.

One fine day, Moana gets a vision from her ancestor, Tautai Vasa, who tells her that the reason why no one is connected to the ocean anymore, and thereon began a news adventure.
