Osars 2023: MM Keeravaani, the composer for RRR, and Chandrabose, the lyricist, received the biggest surprise of their lives. The Carpenters fame, Richard Carpenter, created a unique video after ‘Naatu Naatu’ won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Richard may be seen playing the piano in the video while his family members sing “Top of the World.” Keeravaani sang a cover song of “Top of the World” during his winning speech.
Richard Carpenter’s surprise video for MM Keeravaani
RRR made history by being the first Indian movie to ever take home the Best Original Song Oscar. On the Oscar stage, the song Naatu Naatu was also live-performed.
To wish Keeravaani and Chandrabose, The Carpenter fame, Richard Carpenter, posted a unique video on March 15. He recorded a fresh rendition of ‘Top of the World’ along with his family members.
He captioned the post, “To @mmkeeravani_official and @chandraboselyricist: Heartfelt congratulations on your win for Best Original Song. Here is a little something from our family to you and yours (sic).”

MM Keeravaani expresses emotions
On the famous stage, MM Keeravaani performed a Top of the World spoof song. He said, “I grew up listening to The Carpenters, here I am with the Oscars.” He then sang, “There was only one wish on my mind, so was Rajamouli’s and my family’s, RRR has to win, pride of every Indian and must put me on top of the world.”
After watching this special video, the composer shared his emotions on his Instagram stories and wrote, “This is something I didn’t expect at all. Tears rolling out of joy. Most wonderful gift from the Universe (sic).”
On the other hand, the Director of the film SS Rajamouli also expressed his thoughts on this special media. Sharing the video on his Instagram story, he wrote, “Sir @richardcarpenterofficial, throughout this Oscar campaign, my brother maintained a calm composure whether it is before winning or after he didn’t let his emotions out. But, the moment he saw this, he couldn’t control the tears rolling down his cheeks. Most memorable moment for our family. Thank you so much (sic).”
RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, has received praise outside of India as well. Naatu Naatu, the popular song, also received a 2023 Golden Globe Award.
