Mega star Tom Cruise is gearing up for his iconic return as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning- the next and final instalment of Mission: Impossible series. The actor took to his social media handle to unveil the title and debut teaser trailer for the eighth film in the beloved franchise, slated for release on May 23, 2025. “The choices we make shape our destiny,” Cruise captioned the teaser and added, “Get ready for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Catch you at the movies on May 23, 2025.”
The teaser includes clips from the Brian De Palma-directed 1996 film Mission: Impossible, which was the start point for all of it. IMF agent Ethan Hunt goes on to fight the battle against powerful AI called ‘the Entity,’. The story picks up from where 2022’s Dead Reckoning Part One left off, a voice in the background plays: “Our lives are not defined by any one action. Our lives are the sum of our choices. Everything you were, everything you’ve done, has come to this.”
Back to back action sequences, thrill and the chase makes one nostalgic, while raising anticipation for the final chapter. As the teaser closes, Ethan says, “I need you to trust me one last time,” making fans emotional as the Mission: Impossible saga is nearing its epic conclusion.

About the film:
Besides Tom Cruise, the eighth instalment in the Mission: Impossible film series also features Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, and Henry Czerny. They will reprise their roles from the previous instalemnts. The film will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie with screenplay written by Erik Jendresen.
The film was earlier slated for August, 2022 release. However, in February 2021, Deadline Hollywood reported that Paramount had decided to abandon the plan for greater good.
Though the upcoming movie was supposed to put an end to Ethan’s journey, Cruise during the promotion for Dead Reckoning Part One in 2023, expressed interest in continuing the series and making more films in the series.
