Mirzapur The Film: Is Jitendra Kumar replacing Vikrant Massey as Bablu Pandit? Here’s the scoop!

Jitendra Kumar has reportedly joined the cast of Mirzapur: The Film, set to play Bablu Pandit, originally essayed by Vikrant Massey.

Fans of the hit web series Mirzapur, one of India’s most popular and cult favorite shows, have a fresh reason to celebrate. Following the release of its third season, the makers announced a film adaptation, and now reports suggest that Jitendra Kumar will be joining the star studded cast, with some of the main characters set to reprise their iconic roles.

The series already features Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Ali Fazal, and Abhishek Banerjee, with the shoot currently underway in Varanasi and Mumbai.

According to Mid-Day, Jitendra will portray Bablu Pandit, a role originally played by Vikrant Massey in the series. While the makers haven’t officially confirmed his character details, sources reveal that he is expected to wrap up filming by Monday. Fans are eager to see how the makers bring Bablu Pandit back on screen, given the character’s demise in the original series.

“By Monday, he should wrap up the film. Mirzapur: The Film is being shot in Varanasi [Uttar Pradesh] and Mumbai,” informs a source.

“Vikrant lent innocence and a subtle strength to Bablu Pandit. That naïvety will remain intact with Jitendra’s portrayal as he brings an affability and sincerity to the screen. His chemistry with Ali is also something to watch out for. In Jitendra, the makers have not only found a [good] actor but, from the perspective of visibility, he is extremely popular in the heartland. It will be a collaboration worth the wait,” shares another insider.

Although Jitendra Kumar has been asked to keep his role under wraps, an insider told Mid-Day that Excel Entertainment plans a special announcement to officially welcome him to the Mirzapur cast. This is expected to happen early next year, once the main shoot wraps up.

In addition, sources reveal that Ravi Kishan will play an important role in Mirzapur: The Film.

‘Mirzapur’ revolves around Akhandanand Tripathi, who is the mafia boss of the city of Mirzapur. His son, Munna, wants to take the throne even though he is not worthy. Things take a turn when they face new rivals in the form of brothers, Guddu and Bablu.

The first season starred Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas and Neha Sargam joined the cast in the second season.

Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi, who play Guddu Pandit and Kaleen Bhaiya in the series, will also be seen in the movie. Abhishek Banerjee, who was seen as Subodh aka Compounder in the first season, will also return to the franchise. Beloved character Munna Bhaiya, played by Divyenndu, will also return after he was killed in the second season.
