Friends actor Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, due to a drug overdose, leaving the world shocked. Though his death affected fans, family, and everyone who knew him, his Friends co-stars, who spent 10 years of their lives with him, were the most hurt.
Now, a shocking piece of news has come out that Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey on the show, has decided to take early retirement from acting following Matthew’s death. The same was reported by Daily Mail, who got in touch with a source close to Matt.

The report stated that Matthew’s death has affected Matt so deeply that he has decided to reevaluate his life choices and prioritise other important things; hence, the decision to retire from acting. “He wants to focus on other interests, as that’s what is important to him right now… He is financially stable and doesn’t really want to be in the limelight anymore,” shared the source, and added, “Matt is still upset over the loss of Matthew. Such an important part of his life and a good friend is gone. It has made him rethink his life.”
Having said that, the source further clarified that this does not mean he has completely ruled out acting. He may sign projects in the future but only if there is something out-of-the-box. “He would need the perfect opportunity to return in front of the camera for any role in TV and film, as he has silently retired,” the source noted.
Matt LeBlanc’s Publicist Responds!
After Daily Mail’s report, another publication, Irish Mirror, tried to get confirmation. When they contacted Matt’s publicist to know the truth about Matt’s retirement from the entertainment industry, his publicist responded flatly: “Rubbish.”
After Matthew’s death, Matt has hardly made any public appearances until recently. Following the news of his silent retirement, Matt was spotted with his 20-year-old daughter, Marina. A fan posted their picture from RPM Motorcars in Los Angeles.
On the work front, Matt was last seen in the Friends reunion special, which also brought together the rest of the cast members, including Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and the late Matthew Perry.
