Veteran actor Dharmendra was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to age related health issues, sparking widespread concern. However, panic ensued early on November 11 when false reports of his death began circulating on social media.
The rumors were soon dismissed by his wife, Hema Malini, and daughter, Esha Deol, who confirmed that the 89 year old actor is recovering well.
Dharmendra’s close friend and veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha reacted strongly to the false news. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, he said, “Maine subah uthne ke baad in khabron ko sach hi maan liya tha kyunki ye vishwasniya portals aur publications se aayi thi. Jab mujhe pata chala ki yeh khabar sach nahi hai, toh maine rahat ki saans li aur hairani bhi hui. Dharmendra ji sabke chahite hain, woh theek hain aur jald hi ghar wapas aayenge. Mare unke dushman.”
(When I woke up this morning, I assumed these reports were true because they came from credible portals and publications. When I learned that this news wasn’t true, I was both relieved and surprised. Dharmendra ji is loved by everyone, he’s fine, and will be back home soon. May his enemies die.)
Expressing disappointment over how such misinformation spread, Sinha questioned, “Jo yeh jaankari phaila rahe hain, unhone bataya ki Dharam ji ki koi team nahi hai. Toh woh kaunsi team hai? Jisne unki maut ki khabar ki pushti ki. Yeh behad nirashajanak hai.” (Dharam ji doesn’t have a team. So which team is that the one that confirmed the news of his death? This is extremely disappointing.)
Shatrughan Sinha and Dharmendra share a bond of over 40 years. The two have not only worked together in films but have also maintained a deep personal friendship over the decades.
Dharmendra is currently hospitalised at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. There were several reports regarding his health, with some suggesting that he is critical and some even assuming the worst. His wife, Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol have dismissed rumours regarding his death and said that he is currently stable. However, Dharmendra’s sons Sunny and Bobby Deol have not made any public statements so far.
