Unni Mukundan’s 2024 release, Marco, is winning hearts due to its engaging storyline and power-packed performances. The Malayalam action-thriller, however, faced a major setback after it was leaked online on pirated sites. The unfortunate incident led to Unni urging everyone not to let the film suffer because of it.
“Please don’t watch pirated movies. We are helpless. I’m feeling helpless. Only YOU can stop this. By not watching/downloading the films online. It’s a request,” he appealed on social media.
But the good thing is, despite the leak, the film is doing well at the box office even after two weeks. The movie minted around Rs 1.8 crore on Thursday, taking the overall collection to Rs 43.85 crore. Its second-week collection was also praiseworthy, touching the Rs 16.25 crore mark by the end of week two. The numbers are constantly growing.
On Thursday, Marco had an overall occupancy of 19.09 per cent in Malayalam shows, with most seats being filled in the evening. The best-performing states included Kochi, Bengaluru, Kottayam, and Alappuzha. NCR and Mumbai also saw the film performing decently well.
About the Film
Made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, Marco hit the screens on December 20 in Malayalam and Hindi. Its Telugu version was released later on New Year’s Day, January 1. Besides Unni Mukundan, the film features Siddique, Jagadish, Sudev Nair, and Anson Paul in pivotal roles.
Looking at the phenomenal response, the film is now scheduled for release in Korea, and the big announcement was made by its lead actor. “MARCO Releasing in KOREA! After Bahubali, Marco sets a new benchmark in the South Indian Film Industry! Making history by having the biggest release for an Indian movie in Korea!” he posted on X.
