In his 2005 documentary, The Inner World of Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar reflected on what Mannat means to him. “Buying this house has been one of the most difficult things I’ve done in my life. I didn’t have a home after my parents passed away; I have a house fetish. I’ve always wanted a home. I got this house when I had kids. This is my family’s house, and someday my great-grandchildren will live here like an old Parsi family,” he had said.

Mannat is once again in the spotlight, as Shah Rukh Khan is set to receive a refund of approximately ₹9 crore from the Maharashtra government. The refund is reportedly for an excess payment made to the Collector of the Mumbai Suburban District for the land on which his iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat, is located. Multi-Purpose Building: In addition to being a luxurious residence, Mannat also serves as Shah Rukh Khan’s home office. He frequently conducts meetings and reviews film projects within the premises, highlighting its role as a center for his professional endeavors.

Architecture: Mannat is a fascinating blend of architectural styles. The exterior showcases elements of Indo-Saracenic architecture, while the interiors boast a contemporary design with a touch of Art Deco. This eclectic mix creates a unique and captivating aesthetic.

Significance of the name: Shah Rukh Khan purchased the sprawling bungalow, originally known as ‘Villa Vienna’, from the ‘Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust’ in 2001. Initially, he rechristened it ‘Jannat’, but later changed it to ‘Mannat’ in 2005, reportedly after experiencing a streak of good fortune. The name ‘Mannat’ holds special significance, translating to ‘prayer’ or ‘wish’, reflecting Khan’s deep connection with his beloved home.

Features: Mannat has a private movie theater, a gym, a swimming pool, and a library. The bungalow has a large garden, personal auditorium, a pool, gym and a private parking area that can accommodate up to 20 cars. The mansion is equipped with state-of-the-art security systems and has a team of security personnel. The mansion was constructed under the guidance of Gauri Khan by architect-designer Kaif Faquih. Rajiv Parekh now in charge of renovations.
