Lollapalooza India: In a thunderous 90-minute show on the last day of the world music festival Lollapalooza in Mumbai on Sunday, American DJ Diplo lit the stage on fire. However, Diplo’s choice to dress in a black hoodie bearing the name and image of former Miss World and star Aishwarya Rai also attracted people’s attention.

Diplo performed several successful songs, including Lean On and Where Are You Now, as well as the Punjabi hit Mundian Tu Bach Ke. Fans of the DJ couldn’t stop applauding him for the gesture when a photo of him from the festival was uploaded on Reddit.

A fan wrote, “I need that shirt.” Another called it “Vocal for local abhiyan (mission).” A Reddit user said, “Westerners trying to appeal Indian masses.” One more comment read: “I think it’s cool that he’s wearing it to a Mumbai show though even if he’s just trying to pander to the audience. If I was an artist I’d probably do the same if I was travelling to different countries for shows.”

On Sunday, the audience was also captivated by rock band The Strokes and Indian rapper Divine. The Strokes performed hits such as Last Nite and Take It or Leave It.

Jackson Wang, a K-pop artist, said ‘Namaste’ to his Indian followers. He performed some of his biggest singles, including Go Ghost and Come Alive. Aadya opened the show on Sunday, followed by Apache, Parimal Shais, and Raveena. The third day of the two-day event featured performances by the US-based band Cigarettes After Sex and Indian singer and composer Prateek Kuhad, among others. At least 40 performers performed across four stages over the course of two days at the festival.
