Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the biggest stars in the world and is well known for his stellar performances. But do you know the actor has a connection to India? In a recent interview with Time Magazine, he revealed that his stepmother is a Sikh.
He revealed, “My stepmother is a Sikh. My father is from the sort of hippie counterculture, grew up in San Fran in Los Angeles. He hung out with a lot of the underground art movement in the Los Angeles of the 70s.”
For the unversed, Leonardo’s stepmother’s name is Peggy DiCaprio, and she is an Amritdhari Sikh. She married George DiCaprio in 1995 and also has a son with him. As per reports, she started wearing a turban only a few years ago.
He further recalled how Brad Pitt reacted after seeing his parents on the sets of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. He added, “I remember when we are turning a corner out of Musso and Frank’s into Hollywood Boulevard. I said to Brad, ‘That’s my dad and my stepmom there, and he goes, ‘Yeah, right!’ I said no, that’s them! He goes, ‘Yeah! right!’ I said I know they look like extras in this movie but that’s really them! That’s how they dress everyday. It was an amazing moment!”
Leonardo DiCaprio’s parents got divorced when he was only a year old.
Indian fans of Leonardo have a delightful reaction to his connection to Sikhism and his stepmother being a Sikh. A fan wrote, “I have followed Leo since what’s eating Gilbert grape. I have never heard of him talking about his family. It’s beautiful.”
On the work front, the actor was recently seen in the film ‘One Battle After Another’. The movie also stars Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti.
