Kamini Kaushal, the legendary veteran actress, passed away at the age of 98. Her family has requested privacy in this tough time. She was reportedly India’s oldest living actress.
Her incredible work garnered several accolades throughout her career. She won the Palme d’Or in 1946 at the Cannes Film Festival for her work in ‘Neecha Nagar’. Later, in 1956, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her work in Biraj Bahu.
Kamini Kaushal was born in Lahore and later moved to Bombay. She was married to Braham S. Sood and became the first leading heroine to continue working as lead film heroine after her marriage. Before acting, she did BA in English.
She later played the lead roles in Do Bhai, Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, Ziddi, Shabnam, Paras, Namoona, Arzoo, Bade Sarkar, Jailor, Godaan and many more. In recent years, Kamini Kaushal had only appeared in a few films, including Kabir Singh, Chennai Express and Laal Singh Chaddha. Her last film appeared in Laal Singh Chaddha alongside Aamir Khan.
For the unversed, she was also the first herione for whom legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar ever sang for.
