Lee Soon-jae, the legendary South Korean actor, passed away at the age of 91. He had a career of over six decades and was one of the most popular faces in South Korean cinema. His demise is a big loss to the cinema, and several fans fondly remembered his work.
Born in 1934, Lee Soon-jae moved to Seoul, where Lee’s grandparents were living at four. He graduated from the prestigious Seoul National University. He started his acting career in 1956 with the play ‘Beyond the Horizon’. In 1961, he made his debut on the TV screen with the show ‘Should I become a human too’. He made a successful name for himself in theatre, films and television.
By the 1990s, he started working prominently in TV with shows ‘Live As I Please’, ‘Pungwoon’ and many more. Lee Soon-jae also ventured into politics but quit after one term.
In 2018, he was awarded a second-class Eungwan Order of Cultural Merit by the Korean government for his incredible contribution to cinema.
He was last seen in the K-drama ‘Dog Knows Everything’ in 2024. He even won the Grand Prize (Daesang) for his work in this show.
