Income Tax Department Sends Notice

According to a report by The New Indian Express, Prithviraj has received an official notice from the Income Tax Department. The notice wants his clarification on his earnings from three of his films- Jana Gana Mana, Gold and Kadavu in all of which he either acted or co-produced.

The notice was reportedly emailed on March 29 and requires Prithviraj to respond with explanations by April 29.

No Acting Fee, Only Co-Producer Pay

Sources also suggests that despite playing lead roles in the three films, Prithviraj did not took any fees as an actor and was paid only as a co-producer. The IT Department is now examining the income structure and want more clarity on the matter as part of standard verification.

Follow-Up From 2022 Investigations

This isn’t the first time Prithviraj has faced legal scrutiny. In 2022, his home and office were also searched over for suspected inconsistencies in tax filings. The current notice is said to be a follow-up to that investigation and is reportedly unrelated to the ongoing L2: Empuraan row.

L2: Empuraan Controversy

Meanwhile, L2: Empuraan which is directed by Prithviraj and stars Mohanlal, has been in the headlines for controversial scenes related to the 2002 Gujarat riots. The makers voluntarily removed certain dialogues and changed character names after backlash.

The film also became a point of discussion in Parliament, with BJP MP Suresh Gopi stating that the filmmakers were never pressured to make changes.

Prithviraj has yet to respond publicly to the tax notice. The situation continues to develop, adding a legal twist to his already headline-making cinematic journey.
