Lee Min-Ho’s recent comeback series, ‘When the Stars Gossip,’ has been making waves on Netflix. People are loving to see their favourite K-drama actor back doing what he is known for – romance. Despite receiving praise for his chemistry with co-star Gong Hu Jin, a recent episode sparked controversy among fans. The issue arose from a dialogue spoken by Lee Min Ho’s character, Gong Ryong, in the sixth episode.
During a conversation with Commander Eve Kim, played by Gong Hyo Jin, Gong Ryong makes a comment about being an expert in sex and pregnancy. Although the English subtitles provided by Netflix toned down the statement, Korean-speaking viewers were upset upon the actual translation. According to KoreaBoo, the original dialogue was more explicit, stating, “I am the expert at having sex and impregnating.” The translation however read, “When it comes to sex and pregnancy, I’m the expert.”
This scene sparked widespread criticism, with fans targeting not only the scriptwriter and director but also Lee Min-Ho for agreeing to deliver such a line. Given Min Ho’s massive fan following and influence, this controversy has become a significant issue. The show has been in the news for several reasons, and this incident has added to the debate.
Meanwhile, there are reports the BTS member Jin has recorded the OST for this drama and the same will be released on January 26. The collaboration is much-talked about considering the huge fan base of both the artistes – actor Lee Min-Ho and Singer Jin. It will also be Jin’s first song for a K-drama after his return from the mandatory military service.
While you wait for the song to release, keep watching the show every Saturday and Sunday on Netflix, as the streaming platform drops news episode on the weekend.
