South Korean actor Lee Min Ho is excited to make his much-anticipated return to television with the new K-drama ‘When the Stars Gossip’. To generate buzz for the series, he has been actively involved in its promotion. The drama features an impressive cast, including Gong Hyo Jin, Han Ji Eun, and Oh Jung Se. After nearly five years away from K-dramas, fans are eagerly looking forward to his comeback. Recently, the 37-year-old actor appeared on the talk show ‘You Quiz on the Block’, where he shared details about a life-changing accident that had significantly influenced his career.
In a special episode of tvN that aired on December 25, hosted by Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho, Lee Min Ho shared the emotional story of a devastating car accident he experienced in 2006. At just 20 years old and early in his acting career, he was travelling to Gangwon Province with his friend and fellow actor, Jung Il Woo. Tragically, their vehicle collided with another car driven by an intoxicated driver who had veered into their lane.
The crash was severe, leaving Lee Min Ho with critical injuries, including a fractured thigh bone and cartilage damage, which required him to stay in the hospital for nearly a year. Jung Il Woo also sustained multiple injuries and was later diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. The accident forced both actors to undergo prolonged recovery periods, significantly delaying their careers.
During the conversations, Min Ho said: “It even made the local news in Gangwon Province. It was a fatal accident. Everyone in the offending vehicle passed away. I spent almost a year lying in a hospital bed.” He added, “We were both just 20 years old, a time when you were dreaming and eager to pursue your aspirations as an adult. Suddenly, everything stopped without warning. I went through denial, anger, depression, and eventually acceptance.”
Il Woo’s success had Min Ho feeling all sorts of mixed emotions. He really wanted to cheer for his friend and enjoy the moment, but his own situation held him back. She said, “I hated myself for feeling that way. I wanted to cheer and support him 100%, but I couldn’t help feeling impatient. I also wanted to be recognised and make a name for myself. I wondered if I couldn’t fully celebrate my friend because of those feelings.”
