Karisma Kapoor has clarified that her ongoing legal battle over her late ex-husband Sunjay Kapur’s vast estate is not about her personal wealth but about securing the rightful inheritance of their two children, Samaira and Kiaan.
Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma and the children, rejected the claim of Sunjay’s wife Priya Sachdev that Rs 1,900 crore has already been given to the heirs. He argued that when Sunjay Kapoor’s total assets are worth about Rs 30,000 crore and the legal heirs are only five people – his mother, three children and Priya.
Jethmalani remarked, “If the estate is Rs 30,000 crore and they are only getting Rs 1,900 crore… actually, there are only five class-one heirs – mother, three children, and Priya – why is she not disclosing a will, if it’s genuine. The children are not getting whatever they are getting at the mercy of Mrs Kapur. These are assets of Sunjay Kapur; nobody is doing us a favour. Is Priya Sachdev going to forsake the remaining Rs 28,000 crore that goes to her, what kind of rubbish is this? We are trying to fight for the children’s rightful inheritance.”

Earlier this week, Priya Sachdev’s legal team told the court that Samaira and Kiaan were beneficiaries under the will and had been allocated Rs 1,900 crore. Karisma’s side, however, argued that the children have no independent access to the money, since Priya currently oversees the estate.
Jethmalani further submitted that Karisma’s only intention is to ensure her children receive the security their father had planned for them under a trust deed. The deed, he said, covered Sunjay’s Indian businesses and overseas assets, while the alleged will has neither been disclosed nor subjected to probate.
