The Karate Kids franchise has a huge fan following around the world and the new film in this series ‘Karate Kid: Legends’ is all set to arrive in theatres. The movie also marks the return of the legendary actor Jackie Chan on the big screen and he will reprise the role of Mr. Han. Karate Kids: Legends has arrive in theatres in India today (May 30, 2025).
Apart from Jackie Chan, the movie also stars Ralph Macchio, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. The last Karate Kids movie was released in 2010, with Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan, Taraji P. Henson, Wenwen Han, Zhenwei Wang, Luke Carberry, Zhensu Wu, Zhiheng Wang, and Yu Rongguang.
‘Karate Kid: Legends’ will follow the story after the events of the series ‘Cobra Kai’, which is the continuation of the franchise. The movie focuses on kung fu prodigy Li Fong, who moves to New York but struggles to let go of the past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates. He later meets Mr Han and Daniel LaRusso as he learns to merge two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.
In an interview with The New Indian Express, director Jonathan Entwistle talked about Ben Wang joining the film. He shared, “We wanted an actor who speaks Mandarin, is well-versed in martial arts, and is also westernised enough to carry the film for that audience.”
He added, “When I saw his tape, I realised his acting was outstanding,” adds Jonathan. “But when I saw how hard he worked to bring the martial arts level to something that looks impactful on camera, that’s when I realised he was the one.”
