Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has shared his thoughts on what makes a film truly successful, highlighting conviction as the key ingredient to resonating with audiences. In a candid interview with renowned film critic Komal Nahata, Karan discussed how certain filmmakers, particularly SS Rajamouli, have made huge hits by focusing more on conviction than logic.
Karan Johar On Conviction Over Logic
Karan elaborated on the idea that conviction plays a pivotal role in creating films that connect with the audience, regardless of whether the narrative follows conventional logic or not. He pointed to SS Rajamouli’s works, including RRR and Baahubali, as prime examples, stating, “When you watch Rajamouli’s films, logic is out the window. What you witness is pure conviction.”
He continued, “If you can beat a thousand people with a single hand pump, that’s conviction. Anil Sharma believed Sunny Deol could do this in Gadar, and that’s the kind of conviction we need in filmmaking.”
Karan Johar’s Advice To Aspiring Filmmakers
Karan emphasised the importance of having unwavering belief in one’s work and urged aspiring filmmakers to embrace conviction. “Doubting yourself or second-guessing the audience is the problem. If you have conviction in your vision, you can create blockbusters,” he added.
Karan Johar’s Upcoming Projects
