The Punjab State Women’s Commission has initiated a formal inquiry against Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh over the use of allegedly objectionable words for women in their songs. The commission has taken suo motu cognizance and written a letter to the DGP of Punjab, summoning both the artists to appear on August 11, 2025, and demanding a speedy investigation.
The matter came to light after the release of Karan Aujla’s new song “MF Gabharu”, which has garnered over 34 million views in under a week. At the same time, objections have also been raised over Honey Singh’s old song “Millionaire”. The Women’s Commission says that the language of these songs contains objectionable content that disrespects women.

Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill expressed serious concern about the representation of women in both songs. In a letter addressed to the Punjab DGP, she stated that the lyrics “violate the dignity of women” and foster a culture of sexism and disrespect through popular music. The commission has asked police to conduct a detailed investigation and submit their findings by August 11.
Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh have not yet responded to this summons.
