Kanguva For Oscars 2025: ‘Kanguva’ created massive hype ever since its announcement as the audience was promised to be introduced to a new intriguing world. Despite the huge potential, the movie was not able to meet the expectations it had set for the viewers. Even though the performances by Suriya and the rest of the star cast were praised, it was not enough to lift the film. Many are surprised and delighted to see ‘Kanguva’ in the Oscars race and is reportedly eligible to be shortlisted for the Best Picture category.
The eligibility for Oscars 2025 is a big achievement for ‘Kanguva’ but the movie is lacking in many ways.
What Fell Apart In Kanguva:
Weak Plot:
On paper, the plot of Kanguva sounds interesting but fails to portray it on the big screen due to poor execution. The movie has a blend of different themes, including reincarnation, past life connections, time period, action and drama. However, the overlap of these themes became confusing and chaotic in the film.
Underutilisation of Certain Characters:
‘Kanguva’ starred a talented ensemble cast but many of them were underutilised. Disha Patani, who was starred opposite Suriya, was limited to being an eye candy and dance numbers. Her character never flourished to its full potential. Moreover, Bobby Deol’s role as Udhiran was also not completely explored.
Unnecessary Songs:
The dance number like ‘Yolo’ did not add anything to the storyline of ‘Kanguva’.
Loud Sound Effects:
Many people who watched ‘Kanguva’ complained that its background score and sound effects were too loud, making it an unenjoyable experience to watch in theatres.
Distracting Themes:
‘Kanguva’ tries to touch many subjects within a time limit. From a father-son relationship to a love story to revenge and war, too many themes seem too distracting for the film’s plot.

About Kanguva And Its Fate:
‘Kanguva’ is one of the most expensive Tamil films of all time and has been made on a budget of Rs 350 crore approximately. The movie was only able to collect around Rs 150 crore at the box office. Karthi’s character was introduced towards the end of the film, hinting at a possible sequel. However, due to its poor box office performance, ‘Kanguva 2’ might not materialise.
