Kanguva Box Office Collection: Tamil superstar Suriya’s comeback film ‘Kanguva’ became the biggest opener of his career, minting Rs 24 crore on day 1. However, it saw a massive fall on the very next day and hardly managed to collect Rs 9 crore. This has taken the overall collection to Rs 33 crore, which is highly disappointing. Directed by Siva, ‘Kanguva’ brought back Suriya on the big screen after two long years. His last film was ‘Jai Bheem’, which was released in 2021. (These is the collection within India)
On November 15, Friday, theatre occupancy in Tamil (2D) shows was 18.57 per cent, which was almost 20 per cent less than the previous day. Once again, Chennai, Pondicherry and Dindigul saw the highest footfall. In Tamil (3D) shows, the occupancy was a little better and touched the 25.7 per cent mark.
Hindi shows saw a total occupancy of 11 per cent, where as in Telugu dubbed version a good 26 per cent occupancy was noted.
The production house took to their official social media handle and shared that Kanguva has earned ₹58.62 crore gross on its opening day at the global box office. Studio Green wrote, “Like a wild storm in the box offices worldwide, lauded by all, our #Kanguva collects over 58.62 Crores. Thank you to all the Anbaana Fans, Cinema Lovers and Audiences who made this happen. #KanguvaRunningSuccessfully.”
About Kanguva
This film is directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green and UV Creations. It stars Suriya in a dual role alongside actors such as Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, Natarajan Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala and Mansoor Ali Khan.
After its theatrical run, Kanguva will be available on popular OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. As per reports, the OTT giant has brought the streaming rights of Siva directorial for a whopping 100 crores. This is, by far, the highest amount paid by any streaming platform to stream a Suriya film.
What Went Wrong With The Film?
Though Suriya has been thoroughly appreciated for delivering a power-packed performance in the film, audience as well as critics criticised the weak script and poor execution. Many shared their opinions on social media and one thing that was common in all was how the screenplay looks scattered with little to no emotional connect.
People who have already seen the film talked about its high budget and how it was not reflected in the film’s quality. Disha Patani was only used to raise the glamour quotient and did not contribute anything to the storyline, pointed out fans.
Music and background score was another disappointment for the fans, who shared that it failed to leave an impact. At points, it was just “loud noise” that annoyed them to the core.
Addressing the last concern, film’s producer Gnanavel Raja came out to defend DSP, who is the composer behind the project. “No one has criticised the film’s songs or even the RR (re-recording), the only feedback was that the volume was high. So DSP is not to be blamed for that. The sound issues will be rectified by the night show,” informed Gnanavel Raja.
Film’s Review By News 24
In News 24’s review, the writer called it a visually stunning but narratively flawed film. The review read, “Suriya works hard as Francis and Kanguva, but the weak storyline undermines his efforts. Disha Patani needs acting classes immediately. Yogi Babu’s misuse deserves punishment, and Bobby Deol should reconsider signing films without thought. Rockstar DSP’s loud background music irritates, making you ignore the impressive visuals. By the climax, you’re exhausted. Kanguva’s first part dashes expectations. South makers should slow down and focus on tightening their storylines in heavy-budget, pan-India films.”
