Kanguva At Oscars 2025: Suriya’s highly anticipated film Kanguva received lukewarm box office reception, despite the hype created around it. People criticised it for its overpowering soundtrack and limited screen time for supporting actors, thereby taking away all the excitement they had for the film.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Kanguva has achieved a remarkable feat, generating widespread buzz online. Notably, the film has secured a spot among contenders vying for the Oscars 2025, competing alongside a pool of 323 films from across the world. The category that it has been shortlisted for is Best Picture.
A list of all the film, that have been shortlisted for the award category, has been going viral on social media. It also includes names such as I saw The TV Glow, IF, It Ends With Us, Inside Out 2, Lee, Kneecap, Longing, The Imaginary, How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies among others.

People React To The News!
The film features an ensemble cast, including Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, and Yogi Babu, among others. While Suriya’s power-packed performance was widely praised, the film’s weak script and poor execution drew criticism. Kanguva had a record-breaking opening day, collecting Rs 24 crore. But as people shared their reviews and opinions, the film’s earnings dropped sharply in the following days.
Audiences took to social media to express their disappointment, citing the film’s scattered screenplay, lack of emotional connect, and high budget that doesn’t reflect in its quality. Many also pointed out that Disha Patani’s role was limited to adding glamour, without contributing to the storyline.
The film’s music and background score, composed by DSP, also disappointed fans, who found it to be loud and annoying at times. However, producer Gnanavel Raja later came out in defense of DSP, stating that the criticism was only related to the sound volume, which would be rectified.
It’s a developing story…
