About The Movie
In Emergency, Kangana played the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie focuses on the historic Emergency period that Indira Gandhi declared from 1975 to 1977. Kangana not only acted in the film but also directed it. The film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late actor Satish Kaushik.
Controversies Surrounding Emergency
Emergency faced several challenges, including delays in its release, censor issues, and protests from Sikh groups who claimed the film misrepresented facts. In August of last year, the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) sent a legal notice to the film’s producers, accusing the movie of misrepresenting Sikh history and characters. They also demanded the removal of scenes that they felt showed “anti-Sikh” sentiments.
