Thug Life is the highly anticipated gangster thriller directed by Mani Ratnam, is all set to hit theatres on June 5, 2025. With an ensemble cast and a gripping storyline, fan expectations are soaring high. Produced jointly by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, the film has been made on an estimated budget of INR 250–300 crore, as per a Daily Jagran report.
Kamal Haasan And Mani Ratnam
Kamal Haasan has opted for a profit sharing agreement with Mani Ratnam. Since the film is co produced by the duo, neither of them will receive an upfront salary. Instead, they will share the profits depending on the film’s box office performance.
Silambarasan
Among the star cast, Silambarasan TR (STR) has received the highest remuneration after Kamal Haasan’s profit deal. The actor, who plays the role of Amaran, has been paid a whopping Rs 40 crore.

Trisha Krishnan
Actress Trisha Krishnan, who is playing the role of Indhrani, Kamal Haasan’s on-screen love interest, has reportedly earned Rs 12 crore for her role which is three times her fee from her previous film Good Bad Ugly, where she earned Rs 4 crore.
Other Cast Members’ Pay Details
The supporting cast members have also been remunerated handsomely. Actress Abhirami has been paid Rs 50 lakh, while Joju George received a paycheck of Rs 1 crore for their respective roles in the film.
The salary figures mentioned are based on reports from Daily Jagran. In some cases, inputs from celebrities or their teams may have been included.
The gangster thriller is currently embroiled in a controversy which erupted at the audio launch of the film Thug Life in Chennai, Haasan opened with an emotional tribute to his Tamil roots, saying, “Uyire Urave Tamizhe” meaning ‘My life and my family is Tamil’. Turning to Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar, who shared the stage with him, Haasan added, “Your language was born out of Tamil. So, you are included in that line.”
Karnataka film bodies also threatened to ban the release of Thug Life in the state if the actor did not apologise. After Kamal Haasan refused to apologise, he moved to Karnataka High Court to seek direction to authorities to prevent any opposition to the release of Thug Life.
