Dulquer Salmaan teamed up with Rana Daggubati for the period thriller film ‘Kaantha’. The movie received an amazing response from the audience and the critics alike. ‘Kaantha’ is set in 1950s Madras and focuses on legendary director Ayya and his strained relationship with T. K. Mahadevan. Things took a turn after Mahadevan renamed a female-focused film ‘Shaantha’ to ‘Kaantha’ to suit his own image. The movie is now set to release on OTT after its successful theatrical run.

Dulquer played the role of T. K. Mahadevan, a superstar. Samuthirakani is seen as Ayya, Mahadevan’s former mentor. Bhagyashri Bose played Kumari, film’s heroine and Mahadevan’s love interest. Meanwhile, Rana Daggubati stars as Inspector Devaraj.
In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, producer-actor Rana Daggubati talked about why he did not star in the film as the lead despite its good storyline. He shared, “Each story decides who its actor is in some manner, and everyone is right for a certain role. And I think if you’re trying to be a producer of a film, it’s about finding the best for that story. The second I heard it, I didn’t see anyone but Dulquer in it.”
There has been rumours that Kaantha is a biopic ut producer Rana Daggubati dismissed it. He told 123Telugu, “It’s completely fictional. If something happens now in a studio, everyone will get to know it immediately. But a lot of stories like these happened, but not many will know about them. The story is penned inspired by such incidents. We can call it the dark side of the great people. Two great people fighting for their brilliant craftsmanship excited me.”
The movie is produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese under the banners Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films.
