Dulquer Salmaan has returned to the theatres with his movie ‘Kaantha’, which is a period thriller and has created immense excitement. The movie has been receiving a good response from the audience, praising its performances and plot.
Kaantha box office collection day 1:
According to the website Sacnilk, Kaantha collected Rs 4 crore on day 1. The movie is expected to earn more than its opening day on the weekend.
The movie also stars Samuthirakani, Bhagyashri Borse and Rana Daggubati in the lead roles.
The movie is set in the 1950s, in Madras and focuses on he legendary director in Tamil, Ayya, and his strained relationship with T. K. Mahadevan, a film star he helped establish. Things take a different turn when Mahadevan renames a female-focused film production that was previously called ‘Shaantha’ to suit his own image to ‘Kaantha’.
In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, producer-actor Rana Daggubati talked about why he did not star in the film as the lead despite its good storyline. He shared, “Each story decides who its actor is in some manner, and everyone is right for a certain role. And I think if you’re trying to be a producer of a film, it’s about finding the best for that story. The second I heard it, I didn’t see anyone but Dulquer in it.”
There has been rumours that Kaantha is a biopic ut producer Rana Daggubati dismissed it. He told 123Telugu, “It’s completely fictional. If something happens now in a studio, everyone will get to know it immediately. But a lot of stories like these happened, but not many will know about them. The story is penned inspired by such incidents. We can call it the dark side of the great people. Two great people fighting for their brilliant craftsmanship excited me.”
The movie is produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese under the banners Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films.
