Jiah Khan Case Verdict: A special CBI court on Friday cleared Bollywood star Sooraj Pancholi in the death of Jiah Khan, citing a lack of proof. Along with his mother, the seasoned performer Zarina Wahab, Sooraj was present in court.
Jiah, who was most known for co-starring in Nishabd with Amitabh Bachchan, was discovered dead on June 3, 2013, at her Mumbai residence. She was 25 years old. Sooraj Pancholi was detained by Mumbai Police after being charged under section 306 (abetment to suicide) in relation to a letter that was allegedly written by the actress and found a week later.

“Due to paucity of evidence, this court can’t hold you (Sooraj Pancholi) guilty, hence acquitted,” said judge AS Sayyed of special CBI court in Mumbai.
Rabia, late Jiah’s mother, requested that the nine-year-old case be reopened in a new appeal last year, claiming that the CBI’s earlier probe was flawed. Rabia’s case, however, had been rejected by the Bombay High Court. Rabia claimed in her plea that her daughter had been murdered and asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States to assist in a new investigation by an independent, special agency.
