Judge Analisa Torres has denied Jay-Z’s efforts to dismiss a lawsuit accusing the rapper and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl over two decades ago. The lawsuit, initially filed in October, alleges that Combs raped the plaintiff, identified as “Jane Doe,” at a party after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The case was amended in December to include allegations against Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.

Plaintiff Granted Anonymity For Early Stages
In a written order issued Thursday, Judge Torres ruled that Jane Doe could proceed anonymously during the early stages of the litigation. However, the judge noted that the plaintiff might be required to disclose her identity if the case advances further.
Criticism Of Defense Tactics
Judge Torres also criticized Carter’s attorney, Alex Spiro, for what she termed “combative motions” and “inflammatory language” directed at the plaintiff’s lawyer. She called these actions inappropriate and warned they wasted judicial resources. “The Court will not fast-track the judicial process merely because counsel demands it,” Torres wrote.
Jay-Z has denied all allegations. His attorney, Alex Spiro, argued for dismissal, citing inconsistencies in the Alabama woman’s allegations reported by NBC News earlier this month. Spiro reiterated that Jay-Z had no involvement in the case, stating, “Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case.”

Combs Facing Multiple Legal Challenges
Sean “Diddy” Combs, who remains jailed in New York awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, is also facing numerous sexual assault lawsuits.
Tony Buzbee, representing Jane Doe, responded to criticisms in a statement, asserting that attempts to discredit him as counsel were ineffective. “The coordinated and desperate efforts to attack me as counsel for alleged victims are falling flat,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
THR has reached out to Combs’ attorney for further comments.
