Jailer 2, starring superstar Rajinikanth, is currently one of the most anticipated releases of 2026. The movie has reportedly roped in a Bollywood diva, and this has created more excitement among fans. As per a report by Pinkvilla, Vidya Balan will join Jailer 2 alongside Rajinikanth and the film is expected to release in August 2026.
A source revealed, “Vidya Balan recently signed on for Jailer 2 and was completely impressed by the script. Her character is integral to the story and brings a major turning point. It’s a strong, layered role that adds emotional and narrative depth to the film.”
The makers are reportedly eyeing Independence Day 2026 to release Jailer 2 in theatres.
Apart from Superstar Rajinikanth, the first part starred Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vasanth Ravi, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu and Sunil in supporting roles. Meanwhile, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff were seen in cameo roles.
In an earlier interview with Film Companion, Nelson Dilipkumar revealed that everyone asked him not to portray Rajinikanth as an old person in ‘Jailer’. He shared, “This is the first time I made him play his age, that was the major doubt in me because people told me, ‘Don’t make him play his age. Let him do whatever he has done already. Don’t grey his hair.’ But I was like, even if it has to fail, let it be with my gut, I will take the blame. I didn’t want someone to confuse me.”
He further talked about a scene in ‘Jailer’ where a dead body falls on the table. He shared, “I thought about staging that scene for a month. I wanted Rajini sir to be cool in that whole film. Rather than him fighting, whatever happens around him should be more interesting and never seen before in his films. I myself wrote the whole stunt and scripted the whole scene.”
The movie revolves around Muthuvel Pandian, also known as Tiger, who is a retired jailer and decides to fight against a powerful smuggler, Varman.
