Indian comedian Samay Raina is reportedly struggling emotionally after the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent led to multiple FIRs against him and the show’s makers. YouTuber Shwetabh Gangwar recently opened up about Raina’s condition, revealing that he appeared ‘broken, scared, and depressed.’
Following remarks made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on the show, India’s Got Latent became embroiled in legal trouble, resulting in multiple FIRs. In response, Samay Raina removed all episodes of the show from his platforms.
Shwetabh Gangwar On Samay Raina
In a now-deleted video, Shwetabh Gangwar shared details of his phone call with Samay during the controversy. According to Shwetabh, Samay initially tried to stay strong, but as the situation worsened, his mental state deteriorated.
“Bhaisahab, toota hua hai vo insaan (He is a broken man). When the controversy first erupted, I could still see the old Samay in him, but when I spoke to him last time, I saw a broken man- depressed, sad, and scared,” Shwetabh said, as reported by Free Press Journal.
The YouTuber also admitted that he took a break from social media due to feeling helpless about his friend’s situation. He further mentioned that other creators involved in the show, such as Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, and Ashish Chanchlani, were also facing difficulties.
Samay Raina Speaks Out During His Canada Tour
Currently, Samay Raina is in Canada for his live shows and has sought time until March 17 to return to India and record his official statement. During one of his performances, he briefly addressed the controversy.
A fan named Shubham Dutta shared his experience on Facebook, describing Samay as visibly exhausted and under immense pressure. He recalled the comedian’s first words on stage: “Thanks for paying my lawyer’s fees.”
Samay Raina also joked about the controversy, saying “There will be many moments in this show where you might think I could say something really funny, but in those moments, just remember BeerBiceps, brother.”
Supreme Court’s Response
On March 2, during a Supreme Court hearing regarding the India’s Got Latent controversy, the bench allowed Ranveer Allahbadia to resume podcasting under certain conditions. However, the court also disapproved of comments made by Raina during his Canada show.
Without directly naming him, Justice Kant remarked: “These youngsters think we are probably an outdated generation. One of them has gone to Canada and spoken there. They don’t understand the jurisdiction this Court enjoys and what can be done. We don’t want to take action because they are young; we understand.”
As the controversy unfolds, all eyes remain on Raina’s return to India and his official response to the legal proceedings.
