Stand-up comedian Samay Raina made a powerful comeback during his latest live performance in Delhi, with his new live show Still Alive & Unfiltered on November 8 at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, drawing a huge crowd.
Addressing the controversy around his YouTube show India’s Got Latent, which had sparked nationwide backlash and multiple FIRs earlier this year, Samay opened up about how the incident deeply impacted his mental health. He spoke honestly about his childhood, friendships, and family, and shared how the constant public scrutiny had taken an emotional toll on him.
However, the evening ended on a hopeful note when Samay surprised fans by announcing the return of India’s Got Latent for Season 2. “Show toh main wapas launga,” (I will bring back the show) he declared, as reported by DNA.
India’s Got Latent controversy
The first season of India’s Got Latent came under fire after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment to a contestant: “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life. Or would you join in once and stop it forever?” The uproar was also caused due to Apoorva’s comments on the show.
These comments caused huge backlash, which led to many people demanding ban of India’s Got Latent and Ranveer’s podcasts. The controversy escalated when the complaint were also filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission for allegedly using abusive language on the show.
All Indian Cine Workers’ Associations (AICWA) wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, demanding a ban on ‘India’s Got Latent’ and legal action against its creators.
