Before Deepika Padukone made her acting debut in the film Om Shanti Om with Shah Rukh Khan, she appeared in Himesh Reshammiya’s music video ‘Naam Hai tera.’
Singer Mika Singh said ‘Deepika should give more credit to Himesh for helping her get noticed, but she doesn’t talk about it as much as she should. Mika also shared that many playback singers in Bollywood were very jealous of Himesh’s early success because he was getting all the top songs at the time. Mika added that even he was surprised, as he felt their voice sounded similar.
Mika Says Deepika Should Credit Himesh for Her Start
In a chat with Shubhankar Mishra, singer Mika Singh shared his thoughts on Deepika Padukone’s early days in the industry. He said, “Deepika doesn’t like to admit it, but she should. More newcomers will learn from her on how to grow in the industry.”
Earlier, in a conversation with Pinkvilla, Himesh Reshammiya was asked about giving Deepika a break. He replied, “We launched many other girls, but they didn’t become Deepika Padukone. So, the whole credit goes to her. She starred in the music video of ‘Naam Hai Tera’, and she was a star from day one. She was fantastic. Her dedication, hard work, and screen presence was good even back then.”
Deepika Thanked Himesh on Indian Idol
Deepika Padukone once appeared on Indian Idol as a guest when Himesh Reshammiya was on the judges’ panel. During the show, she thanked him for giving her a chance early in her career and said, “I knew nothing about shooting when I was shortlisted for the music video. I never went to a film set or knew how music videos are shot. Whatever I am doing today, I have learned it while filming the music video. Thank you, sir, for giving me this opportunity. You had faith in me when nobody else did.”
