India’s Got Latent, hosted by stand-up comedian Samay Raina, has been involved in a controversy after some offensive remarks made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and social media influencer Apoorva Makhija. The show has got into more legal trouble after Mumbai’s Cyber Cell also registered a case against it. Samay Raina is yet to react to this controversy.
According to reports, the case has been registered against 30 to 40 people and the process to send them notice has also begun. These people will also be called for questioning.
Earlier, All Indian Cine Workers’ Associations (AICWA) wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, demanding a ban on ‘India’s Got Latent’ and legal action against its creators. According to the letter the association mentioned that, “The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) strongly condemns the objectionable and offensive content being promoted on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent. This show, hosted by Samay Raina and judged by Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Makhija, Jasprit Singh, Ashish, and others, has crossed all ethical and moral boundaries by using extremely derogatory language, including remarks against parents and family values – which is absolutely unacceptable in any civilized society.”
About The Controversy:
In the latest episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’, YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani were the guests alongside Apoorva Makhija. The backlash was caused due to Ranveer’s question for one contestant as he said, “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life. Or would you join in once and stop it forever?” Later, Apoorva also asked, “have you ever seen v*****?”
Ranveer later apologised for his inappropriate remarks and removed all the posts with Samay Raina. He said, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I’m just here to say sorry. Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform and obviously this is not how I wish to use it. I’m not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened.”
Meanwhile, a complaint was filed on Monday against Ranveer, Apoorva and Samay and the organisers of India’s Got Latent. The complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission for allegedly using abusive language on the show and strict action has been demanded against the accused in the letter.
