Actress Triptii Dimri, is making headlines for her supporting role in the controversial blockbuster ‘Animal,’. She shared her perspective on the portrayal of women in the film, particularly her character Zoya. She addressed the divisive scene where her character is made to lick the boot of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ranvijay. Triptii also expressed her views on transitioning from playing characters with agency in films like ‘Bulbbul’ and ‘Qala’ to portraying a more submissive role in ‘Animal.’
In an interview with The Quint, Triptii Dimri was asked about the impact of films on society and whether artists feel a responsibility for their portrayal. Describing her character Zoya as ‘perfect the way she is,’ Triptii shared her perspective on the role and its potential influence. She said “I see her as a very honest and sincere person, and I wouldn’t want to change a single thing about her.” Asked about the shoe scene, and whether it could influence minds, she said, “It depends on person to person. If you’re watching an action film, and the goons are beating up the hero, that doesn’t mean you go and beat up whoever you hate in life. Or, if someone is talking rudely to his wife or girlfriend, that doesn’t give you the license to go home and start talking the same way to your wife, or girlfriend, or whoever.”
Triptii emphasized that movies should be seen as movies, advocating for a perspective that humanizes characters. She expressed the importance of portraying the complexities and shades that people have in real life on the big screen. While acknowledging the diversity of opinions and the impact films can have, Triptii highlighted the audience’s freedom to choose what they watch, acknowledging that people are entitled to their opinions and choices about the content they consume. “There are people who do get affected, and they’re not wrong in saying what they’re saying. It’s their point of view, and they’re allowed to have an opinion. But it’s also a choice. If certain things don’t suit you, don’t watch them,” she said.
