Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani’s War 2 hit cinemas on August 14 with a grand multilingual release. While Rajinikanth’s Coolie drew massive strength from Tamil speaking regions, the spy thriller dominated the Hindi and Telugu markets, holding its ground in a tough box office battle.
Made on a huge budget of Rs 400 crore, the film was a big risk for YRF’s Spyverse. But on the very first day, it performed strongly earning Rs 53.10 crore in India and Rs 79.95 crore worldwide, breaking several records and setting new milestones.
Within just two days of its release, the film has stormed past the Rs100 crore mark at the box office. The actioner continues to shatter benchmarks and set new records and here are the milestones it has already broken.
Records Broken by War 2:
Surpasses Chhaava’s Opening: With Rs 53.10 crore on Day 1, War 2 crushed the record of Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which opened at Rs 33.10 crore.
3rd Highest Spyverse Opener: The film now stands behind only Pathaan and War (2019), overtaking Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Tiger 3.
2nd Biggest Opening of 2025: While Coolie claimed the top spot, War 2 secured the second-highest opening of the year, pushing Chhaava down to third.
Hrithik Roshan’s Career-Best Opener: The superstar broke his own record, the first War had opened at Rs 77.95 crore worldwide, while War 2 clocked Rs79.95 crore.
Kiara Advani’s Highest Opener Yet: For Kiara, War 2 overtook the success of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Kabir Singh, making it her biggest debut day grosser.
Despite opening strong with Rs 51.5 crore on Day 1 and earning Rs 108 crore in two days, War 2 trailed slightly behind Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which stormed the box office with a Rs 65 crore debut and a two day total of Rs 118.5 crore.

War 2, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War, hit theatres on August 14, 2025. It brings back Hrithik Roshan as Agent Kabir after a six-year gap. NTR Jr. joins the franchise as Agent Vikram. Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana are also seen in pivotal roles.
