Akshaye Khanna’s entry as Rahman Dakait dressed in a black Pathani with a shawl over his shoulders instantly grabbed attention. His walk set to a viral Bahraini track by Filipperachi was enough to turn him into an internet sensation. What’s surprising is that the sequence now viral was never planned as a showstopper.
In an interview with NDTV, choreographer Vijay Ganguly revealed that Akshaye’s entry in the song was completely spontaneous and filmed in a single take. Describing the actor’s working style, Vijay shared that once Akshaye steps onto the set, he is fully immersed in his character. “Doesn’t go to the van, he doesn’t wander around and is always in character”, the choreographer said.
The Fa9la sequence shows Akshaye’s character, Rehman Dakait, stepping out of his car, walking into a gathering, dancing, and being honoured with a ceremonial turban. According to Vijay, the idea for Rehman to dance during his entry came directly from Akshaye himself. He pitched it to director Aditya Dhar moments before the shot.
“Then the camera rolled, and he did what you see in the video. That was one take. That’s it. It was all impromptu.” Vijay recalled, adding that everything about the scene was improvised at the last minute, “Everything was last-minute. We honestly never expected it to become this big.”
Still processing the overwhelming response, Vijay admitted that the simplicity of the moment is what makes its success so surprising. “I still can’t digest that Fa9la is a hit. It’s literally a scene where he enters, sits, and gets coronated. That piece has gone so viral that I’m getting calls and congratulations constantly. And that was the most effortless thing we did,” he added.
