In a significant development in Honey Rose sexual harassment case, businessman Boby Chemmanur has been taken into custody by the Kochi police from Wayanad. He has been booked under non-bailable sections. This move comes after the Malayalam actor filed a police complaint, accusing Chemmanur of making sexually abusive and derogatory comments.
What’s The Controversy
The issue caught everyone’s attention when Rose took to her Facebook handle on Sunday and shared the details of the unfortunate incident. She mentioned about being stalked and receiving sexually inappropriate remarks through various media platforms, but refrained from revealing the identity of the perpetrator. It was only after people began to post offensive things in the comment section, that she named Chemmanur in a follow-up post.
Rose also filed a case against 30 people, who spoke ill of her on social media, and further wrote, “I have filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police Station against your (Chemmanur) continuous derogatory remarks about me. I will take the same action against your supporters who share the same mentality. You can continue to rely on your wealth, but I have faith in the Indian legal system.”
She further clarified, “It is part of my job to attend programmes to which I am invited. I am not against comments on my attire or creative criticism. (But) there should be restraint in the comments. I have only worn dresses that are permitted under prevailing laws in the country.”
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the sexual harassment complaint.
Police Share Details
The Central Police have booked Chemmanur under various sections, including Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with sexual harassment, and Section 67 of the IT Act, which refers to the punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.
“A special investigation team has been formed. The circle inspector of the central station is entrusted with the investigation. Besides him, the team will also comprise the personnel of the central station and of the cyber cell. The statement of the complainant will be recorded first. The other steps will be taken after that,” shared an officer from Kochi Central Station, who is involved in the case.
Accused Denied Allegations
Chemmanur has denied the allegations, claiming that he always interacted with Rose in a friendly manner and didn’t use any derogatory terms. He also shared that the case has been discussed with his lawyers, who did not find anything objectionable or derogatory about what he said.
