Actor Andre Braugher, who starred in TV shows like ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ passed away at the age of 61. Braugher’s publicist Jennifer Allen told The Associated Press the actor died after a short illness.
Born in Chicago on 1 July 1962, is survived by his wife Ami Brabson, their three sons, his brother Charles and mother Sally, The Guardian reported.
The Chicago-born actor had his breakthrough role in 1989’s Glory, starring alongside Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, who won an Oscar for the film about an all-Black army regiment during the the Civil War. He would win his first career Emmy for the role, taking the trophy for lead actor in a drama series in 1998.
Andre Braugher was famous for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in the comedy show, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’. Back in the 90s, he rose to fame by playing the role of Detective Frank Pembleton in ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’. He also grabbed an Emmy for his performance in 1998.
After ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’, it was ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ that made him famous. He appeared as the deadpan Raymond Holt alongside Andy Samberg in eight seasons. His exceptional performance fetched him two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In addition, he received four Emmy nominations as well.
Recently, he appeared in ‘She Said’, which is a drama about the New York Times reporting of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. In the project, he essayed the role of Dean Baquet, executive editor of The New York Times.
