Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial ‘Homebound’ has been selected as India’s official submission for the Oscars 2026. It is a big milestone for the film, and the team is elated by this news. Producer Karan Johar, director Neeraj Ghaywan and the cast have also extended their gratitude for getting this big opportunity. But how does this selection process for India’s entry to the Oscars work?
In India, the Film Federation of India (FFI) selects which film will be India’s submission to the Academy Award. The FFI has reportedly 13 jury members, who are responsible for making this selection. The jury discusses and votes to choose the movie and make an official announcement. The films must have been released between October 1 and September 30th of the following year, and at least 60 per cent of the dialogue should be in Indian languages.

It premiered at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The movie was also screened at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival. Even before its release in India, ‘Homebound’ received an amazing response from the critics.

‘Homebound’ will release in India on September 26, 2025. It stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles.
