‘Homebound’, starring Vishal Jethwa, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, has finally been released in theatres in India. Homebound box office collection day 1:
According to the website Sacnilk, ‘Homebound’ only collected Rs 29 lakh on day 1. The numbers might go higher as there is no major release in the Hindi and North Indian belt this week.
‘Homebound’ has also achieved a big milestone by becoming India’s official entry to the Oscars 2026 in the Best International Feature Film category. Sharing the news, Karan Johar wrote, “One of the “pinch me” moments that I will NEVER forget!!!! Extremely honoured, humbled and ecstatic that our film #Homebound is selected as India’s official entry for Best International Feature at the 98th Academy Awards! Our deepest gratitude to the @filmfederationofindia to believe in the story, in us and what we can bring to the world stage for Indian cinema. Heartiest congratulations to the entire team.”

Director Neeraj Ghaywan said in a statement, “I’m deeply honoured that Homebound has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars. Rooted in the love for our land and our people, it carries the essence of the home we all share. To take our stories to the world and represent India at one of the biggest global stages for cinema is both humbling and a matter of pride, and for this I’m extremely grateful.”
The movie also found support in Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who also joined the film as its executive producer. Meanwhile, Martin said in the statement, “I have seen Neeraj’s first film Masaan in 2015 and I loved it, so when Melita Toscan du Plantier sent me the project of his second film, I was curious. I loved the story, the culture, and was willing to help. Neeraj has made a beautifully crafted film that’s a significant contribution to Indian Cinema. I am glad the movie is an official selection at Un Certain Regard in Cannes this year.”
‘Homebound’ premiered at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The movie was also screened at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival.
