Himani Shivpuri Opens Up About Her Absence from Dharma Films Says ‘Karan Johar Ko Meri Baat Chubhati Hai’

Veteran actress Himani Shivpuri, known for her roles in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, recently opened up about her absence from Dharma Productions films. In a candid chat, she revealed that a light-hearted comment made during the final shoot of K3G may have unintentionally offended Karan Johar, possibly affecting future collaborations.

Veteran Indian actress Himani Shivpuri, in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, revealed the reason for her absence from the Dharma Productions’ film after being part of Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.  In a candid chat with Siddharth, Himani said that her carefree comment on the last day of the K3G shoot might be the reason for something going wrong.

Himani mentioned her joy while acting for the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. She said that when the casting for Kal Hona Ho started, she sensed something was going wrong and thought that she must have upset Karan Johar.

“During the last scene (of K3G), Karan Johar came to me and said, ‘Lovely working with you Himani ji, you are my lucky mascot!’ I told him ‘please, from next time, give me a good role’. He said ‘yes Himani ji, I will." The actress then recalls of her moving to Nikhil Advani at a screening. he said that shooting for the Kla Hona Ho movie is about to start and showed his interest in having her on board.

She remembered, “I asked Yash Johar, who was standing there, for signing amount and he gave me a dollar! I told my secretary that he should meet Nikkhil because I spoke to him but when he met them, he was told there was no such role for me. Then a few more Dharma films went by, I was not called, so I was left wondering what was happening."

Himani Shivpuri reminisced about her meeting with Karan Johar at an award show later, where she asked him about why this time, she wasn’t cast for Kal Hona ho, even after Nikhil Advani approached her for the same. On this, Karan told her that he didn’t have a good role for her.

She added, “Karan told me, ‘No no Himani ji, that role wasn’t good enough for you. Aapke layak role hoga na tab bulayege aapko (If there is something that is good enough for you, we will call you). Then it struck me, ki meri baat shayad lag gayi (that what I told him, he got offended). That’s where the chapter ended. I do feel bad, it used to be a lot of fun. We would gossip a lot and were good pals. Maybe we didn’t meet so often that we could break the ice."

In Karan Johar’s first film, Himani Shivpuri played the role of Riffat Bi, the hostel warden who helps bring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s characters back together.
