Renowned Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain is no more, his family confirmed on Monday, PTI reported. Earlier on Sunday night, social media was flooded with false reports of the death of tabla maestro Zakir Hussain prompting condolence messages from politicians, celebrities, and fans worldwide. However, the claims were quickly debunked by his nephew, Ameer Aulia, and close associates, who clarified that the 73-year-old musician is ‘alive’ but in critical condition.

“My uncle Zakir Hussain is very much alive,” Ameer Aulia had stated on an unverified X handle, urging news media to stop spreading misinformation. He added, “He is in a serious condition, and we urge his fans around the world to pray for his recovery.” Journalist Parvaiz Alam confirmed the family had not announced any news of his death, after checking with Hussain’s brother-in-law in London.
My uncle Zakir Hussain is very much alive and we would ask the news media not to post mis-information. We ask for prayers and we ask for everyone's well wishes.
