Paresh Rawal has immortalised his character of Baburao from the Hera Pheri franchise and is all set to reprise this role in the third part. From his chaotic but lovable performance to the iconic dialogue of “Ye Baburao ka style he”, the actor has become a household favourite over the years. However, he recently revealed he is bored with playing this beloved character.
While speaking to Raj Shamani on his podcast, Paresh Rawal stated that while Baburao’s impact is undeniable, the constant repetition has bored him and has dominated his other performances.
“When you have huge characters with a goodwill of 500 crores, why don’t you take a risk and fly? Why are you stagnant? My contention was to do the character in different ways because we have an audience for it. If you give up your own advantage, what’s the point? We should not just keep doing the same thing. Baburao’s role dominates over many other good characters I have played; it is more affable,” the actor explained.
He further added, “I am told Baburao is more popular than RK Laxman. I feel bad when intelligent people churn out the same thing. I am bored because of this. The character has a tremendous scope; you will believe everything Baburao says.”
Paresh Rawal further explained that he has been avoiding taking characters like Baburao. He shared, “I have always said no to playing caricatures of Baburao. The demand keeps coming; everybody wants to cash in on it. Legally, it’s Firoz Nadiadwala’s property, so I cannot play the character legally in any other person’s film, so it’s a virtue out of helplessness.”
Despite this, he is all set to reprise the role in Hera Pheri 3 and will reunite with the original gang of Raju (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam (Suniel Shetty). After creative and legal controversies threatened the project, the trio is back on board.
