Another thing that is being appriciated besides the beauty of “queens” is the set. It is evident how popular director Sanjay Leela Bhansali speaks with not just the dialogs but with ambience as well.

“Sanjay Leela Bhansali takes you to a realm where courtesans were queens,” read the opening sentence of the video.

Netflix shared the teaser on its official Instagram with the caption saying, “We cannot wait to be a part of another period, another age, and another magnificent world created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, according to the caption of the video. Here’s a look inside the lovely and fascinating world of #Heeramandi.”

Sanjay whose recent movie was Gangubaai Kathiawadi with Alia Bhatt, claimed that he has been thinking about the Heeramandi narrative for 14 years.

In a statement, he said, “Heeramandi is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. This is an epic, first of its kind series based on the courtesans of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and all-encompassing series; therefore I am nervous yet excited about making it. I am looking forward to my partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences all over the world.”

The narrative will focus on the courtesans of Lahore’s Heera Mandi neighbourhood and their three generations of lives. The extravagant sets for the programme were constructed in Mumbai’s Film City, where Gangubaai Kathiawadi was also filmed.

Mumtaz and Shabana Azmi were formerly reported to be involved in Heeramandi, but new reports indicate that they are no longer in the film.
