Harry Potter is one of the popular film franchise and book series and enjoys a massive fan following all over the world. The makers of Harry Potter franchise have decided to revive with a web series and there has been a lot of speculations about its casting. HBO has officially announced the new cast of some key characters of Harry Potter.

John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch
While speaking Variety, Francesca Gardiner, showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, director of multiple episodes and executive producer, said, “We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch.”
They added, “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”
The casting of the main trio, Harry, Hermione and Ron, is yet to be announced. The makers reportedly launched open casting call and received over 30,000 submissions. The film of the series is expected to kickstart this summer. The Harry Potter series is written and executive produced by Gardiner, who is also the showrunner. It is executive produced by Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Mylod will executive produce and direct episodes.

For the unversed, the Harry Potter film franchise has eight films with the final film ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2’ releasing in 2011. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson starred as the three leading characters: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.
