Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi have teamed up for the first time in the courtroom drama ‘Haq’. The movie will showcase the fictionalised and dramatised version of the historic Shah Bano, based on the book titled ‘Bano: Bharat ki Beti’ written by Jigna Vora.
The much awaited trailer dropped today, reigniting conversations around women’s rights, religion, and the balance between personal law and secular justice in India.
The trailer shows Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) and Shah Bano (Yami Gautam) living a happy married life at first, but things fall apart when Abbas marries another woman. Shah refuses to stay quiet about the injustice, but Abbas divorces her by saying “talaq” three times.
Later, when he stops giving her and their children money, Shah decides to fight back by taking him to court where she ends up facing him as the opposing lawyer.

The official synopsis of ‘Haq’ reads, “Shazia Bano takes her husband Abbas to court after he abandons her and their children, sparking a national battle over faith, women’s rights, and justice. Inspired by the landmark Supreme Court judgement of Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum. Haq is the story of one woman’s fight for her rights and justice.”
Directed by Suparn S Verma, who has made Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Acid Factory, and The Family Man Season 2, HAQ tells the story of a Muslim woman who fights for her rights after being wronged by her husband. The movie is based on the real 1985 Shah Bano case, which became a big turning point in India’s legal and political history.
In the end of the trailer, Shah Bano asks the court to see her as an Indian Muslim who just wants justice under the country’s secular law. But her own community, led by her ex-husband, turns against her for going against Sharia rules.
It will release in theatres on November 7, 2025.
