When a vigilant viewer raised objections against Munawar Faruqui’s new comedy show, Hafta Vasooli, on JioHotstar for allegedly “insulting religions” and “polluting minds,” it sparked curiosity. However, after watching the first episode, the only offence found was its sheer lack of humour.
Munawar Faruqui appears to be making a conscious effort to keep his comedy clean and controversy-free. There were no attacks on religion, no edgy remarks- just a series of jokes that failed to land. Instead of sparking outrage, the show struggles to spark laughter.
Flat Jokes, Missed Punchlines
The episode featured guest appearances by Vivian Dsena and Sharib Hashmi, but their conversations were hardly engaging. Even Faruqui himself acknowledged the dullness of one segment. A lengthy skit about a woman complaining to her husband about missing out on ganja on their wedding night dragged on without a solid punchline.
