In the coming decade, Gujarat will see a big concert lineup. A team led by Home State Minister Harsh Sanghavi and three government officials, recently returned from a trip to Britain, during which time they met with event managers from around the world that organize the big concerts.
In the not too distant future, some of these event companies are going to sign MOUs with the Gujarat government. After then, within two years, there will be ten or so concerts at sites in Gujarat, featuring its artists like Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift performing in Gujarat.
Sources stemming from the Gujarat state administration reaffirm that the Gujarat government is striving to make the concert economy a priority. After the successful hosting of concerts by groups like Coldplay in Gujarat, serious work has recently begun to host many more concerts.
Discussions have been involved with many different groups from Britain around this effort, and we are thinking of the economic model that can be built about it.
From concerts like Coldplay to global summits, Gujarat has established itself as a prime destination for every big event. With its excellent infrastructure, strong connectivity and high returns on low investment, the state is now becoming the first choice for international events in India. The cost of such events is usually between Rs 25 to 50 crores, but it generates an income of about Rs 200 crores.
In these events, the state government only has to provide the venue, security arrangements and other logistical support. While the government directly benefits from every event in the form of taxes and GST.
Better Connectivity Is A Big Strength For Gujarat Compared To Other States
Gujarat currently has the facility of national and international flights, railway connectivity, and in the coming time, fast transport services like bullet trains will also be available. All this makes it suitable for big events.
Given the easy access to Gujarat from every corner of the country, Gujarat is becoming a strategic location for major music concerts held in India and Asian countries.
Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat And Vadnagar Can Become Centers For Big Concerts
Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium has already hosted events like Coldplay, Namaste Trump and big cricket matches, making it an established venue. Besides, new facilities are being developed for international events at Ahmedabad’s riverfront, Gandhinagar’s GIFT City, Mahatma Mandir, Surat’s indoor stadium and Vadnagar.
Coldplay Concert Boosts Tourism And Economic Activity in Ahmedabad
The Coldplay concert held in Ahmedabad on 25 and 26 January contributed a total of Rs 641 crore to the city’s economy. According to the ‘India Rising Concert Economy Report’, the city got a direct economic benefit of Rs 392 crore from this event alone.
A large part of the expenditure was made on hotels, transport, food, shopping and local travel. The government earned Rs 72 crore in the form of GST.
With a ticket of Rs 500, the audience spent Rs 2900 on other services according to BookMyShow’s survey found that for every Rs 100 ticket at the Coldplay concert, the audience spent an average of Rs 585 on travel, hospitality, shopping and food.
