In 2003, John Abraham marked his Bollywood debut with the erotic-thriller ‘Jism,’ which proved to be a major success and left a lasting impression on audiences. The film catapulted John into the spotlight, and he was identified as a new protagonist with nuanced shades. However, despite this initial success, some of his subsequent projects like ‘Saaya,’ ‘Paap,’ and ‘Lakeer’ faced commercial failure, receiving poor responses at the box office.

In 2004, John Abraham experienced a breakthrough with Aditya Chopra’s production, the heist action film ‘Dhoom.’ Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, John portrayed the character of Kabir, the leader of a gang of thieves causing chaos in Mumbai while evading the police on high-powered superbikes. ‘Dhoom’ proved to be a critical and commercial success, earning John widespread acclaim. Interestingly, the role that played a pivotal role in propelling John’s career was not initially offered to him.

According to media reports, the initial choice for the main antagonist in ‘Dhoom’ was Salman Khan. However, for reasons unknown at the time, Salman had to decline the role. Subsequently, the makers approached and signed Sanjay Dutt for the character of Kabir. Unfortunately, Sanjay Dutt also had to step down from the project, leading to John Abraham ultimately securing the role and making a significant impact with his performance in ‘Dhoom.’

‘Dhoom,’ released on August 27, 2004, garnered a worldwide gross of Rs 47 crores. Its success led to the creation of a franchise, with the sequel titled ‘Dhoom 2: Back In Action,’ hitting cinemas on November 24, 2006. The second installment surpassed its predecessor, earning a whopping Rs 149 crores worldwide. In 2013, the third installment, ‘Dhoom 3,’ featured Aamir Khan as the main antagonist and emerged as the biggest blockbuster in the franchise, grossing over Rs 556 crores globally.

While fans have been eagerly anticipating ‘Dhoom 4’ since the release of the third film, there has been no official announcement from the makers. Speculations suggest that the series may have concluded with the original trilogy, as there is no confirmation of a new installment in the popular franchise.
