Grammy 2025 Nominations have been announced and ‘Brown Eyes’ hitmaker Beyonce has bagged most nominations, thereby topping the list. With her albums ‘Cowboy Carter’ and is up for album and country album of the year, and ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’, she has received a total of 11 nods this year, which will take her total count till date to 99, making her the most nominated artistes in the history of the prestigious awards.
While ‘Cowboy Carter’ is up for album and country album of the year, ‘Texas Hold ’Em’ is competing for Best record, song and country song of the year this time. Besides, Beyonce has also received nominations in several other categories and genres including pop, country, Americana and melodic rap performance.
The Album of the Year category features top contenders including The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift, Cowboy Carter by Beyonce, Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish, Charli XCX’s Brat and Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Also competing are Andre 3000’s unique woodwind-focused New Blue Sun and Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol. 4. If Beyoncé wins this award, she’ll create history by becoming the first Black woman to achieve the honour in 21st century. Before her, Lauryn Hill won the award for ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,’ in 1999, took home the coveted title.
Trailing Beyonce are popular artistes Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone and Charli XCX with 7 nominations each. Taylor Swift, however, disappointed fans with only 6 nominations this year for her album The Tortured Poets Department. Newcomers Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan also landed six nominations in their Grammy debuts.
Amid this, Indian artiste Ricky Kej once again made the country proud. He has been nominated for his album ‘Break of Dawn’ in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category. Kej, who has previously won three Grammy awards, told ANI, “I’ve already won three Grammy Awards in the past, and this is my fourth nomination, which I hope will lead to my fourth win. So Break of Dawn is a new age album. It’s based on ancient Indian rags. Each and every one of the nine songs of Break of Dawn has been based on an ancient Indian rag. It’s been crafted very, very carefully by me to promote mental health and wellness and it’s focused on India-rooted wellness music…I’m very grateful for this honour of receiving my fourth Grammy nomination.”
